It's VERY important to update your system with our new drivers/software as often as possible. Please go to our website under support and click on Software updates to find the updates. 1) Hardware Explained To view a Flash presentation of how to plug the hardware in, type this in to your web browser http://www.edimensional.com/images/demo1.swf Wired glasses - The wired and the wireless glasses are exactly the same technology, the only difference is how they receive a signal. The glasses perform the same way. The wired glasses do not require the extra part that the wireless have which is the infra red transmitter. The wired glasses receive their signal from the attached wire going directly in to the dongle. Wireless glasses - The wireless glasses work exactly the same way as the wired glasses, the only difference is how they receive their signal. The wireless glasses have one extra part, the transmitter. The wireless glasses use two batteries model: CR1620. The batteries face the same direction in the glasses with the + side out, or facing the forehead when you wear the glasses. Two batteries come pre-installed so there is no need to open the battery door. When replacing the batteries after about 75 hours or so make sure to carefully lift the battery door up then pull it off, replace the batteries and carefully put the battery door back on. Remember, the wireless glasses have a small "ON" button above the left lens. Make sure to press this when receiving the signal. If you press the ON button two times don't worry it won't turn off. The ON button should be pressed when something 3-D is on the screen and the signal has started sending to the glasses. Dongle - The word dongle refers to a connector on a computer that controls another device. Different from a standard connector on a computer our dongle unit contains a computer chip inside! The dongle will control the glasses as well as synchronize the glasses with the monitor. The dongle has 3 connections on the back, one is for the monitor in the middle, the larger one is for the wireless transmitter and the other smaller silver connection is for the wired glasses to plug in directly. Transmitter - The transmitter for the wireless glasses plugs directly in to the dongle. We suggest putting the transmitter on the top of the monitor. Make sure it faces you directly so it can send the signal straight to your wireless glasses. You can put the transmitter anywhere as long as those 2 little bulbs face the glasses. Keep in mind that the transmitter does not light up to show you it's on, those 2 bulbs use infrared which is invisible to the human eyes, but always works well nonetheless. Getting the hardware to work - When using the glasses keep in mind you will need something "3-D" on the monitor before you can see anything through the glasses. So just plugging the glasses in and installing the software won't show you anything. The glasses work as a filter for what you see on your monitor. To see a 3 dimensional image you will have to put something 3-D on the monitor first. When something is "3-D" you will know because it will look blurry or double to the naked eye without the glasses on. Putting the glasses on will then show you 3-D. If you have ever seen a 3-D movie in the theater this is the same concept. If for some reason you're not seeing 3-D view our troubleshooting guide at the end of these instructions. To test the glasses go to our knowledge base under the 3-D glasses category and click on Test your glasses. Make sure to take every single test. 2) Getting your E-D glasses to work - Software Section: - There are 2 parts to getting the system working. The first is the hardware and the second is the software. If you have any doubts about your hardware please review the section above and see our knowledge base to run through the 10 or so tests we have. Remember, the software and the hardware are completely different. They both can work independently of each other but work together to create 3-D. Once you have verified that the hardware is plugged in correctly and is working properly the software needs to do it's job. You will need to determine if you have a Nvidia Geforce graphics card or another type. Nvidia is the only video card maker that has created software for use with our glasses. So if you have nvidia and are using a CRT monitor see the nvidia section below. For all other video cards or if you have an LCD monitor or both see below to the "eDimensional driver" section. - Nvidia section - Remember, if you have a LCD monitor you can not use the nvidia drivers at the current time. In the near future they will be updating the software drivers so that it will work with our new types of glasses that support LCD screens. The old glasses which we don't have anymore did not support LCD. Nvidia supports only CRT type monitors. If you don't know what type of monitor you have, all you have to do is find out how heavy and thick it is. LCD monitors are light weight and are thin compared to CRT. If you can lift the monitor with one hand then it's the new LCD type, if the monitor is thick and requires you to lift it up with both hands then it's a thick heavy CRT type monitor. If you have a thick heavy CRT and a nvidia card read below for proper setup: There is one 3-D glasses driver for Nvidia, but remember you need to also install the video card driver for it to work. The 3-D glasses driver is called the stereo driver. Stereo means "two" and with 3-D it means each of the "two" eyes have a different view of the computer. So for nvidia you need to update your video card drivers as well as your nvidia stereo drivers. The driver version numbers must match. So if you install the 71.89 video card drivers you will need to install the 71.89 stereo drivers as well. It will NOT work if you do not make sure you install the same version for both drivers!!! This is one of the most common mistakes. To find both drivers for the video and stereo go to edimensional.com and click on the Support tab at the top then software updates. - If you have any other type of video card including ATI, intel, etc. you will use the eDimensional drivers as explained below. Remember, if you have nvidia and a LCD screen you will also use this and will NOT use the nvidia drivers! Please read below for proper setup. The eDimensional drivers are very easy to install and use. The drivers don't have the same control panel as the nvidia cards do, so you will not need to go in to the display properties area. All you have to do is make sure the eDimensional icon is running in the taskbar located in the bottom right hand corner of your screen by your clock. You can find the settings by right mouse clicking on the icon and hitting the Settings... - Once you have installed the drivers you will need to learn how to use the software successfully. When a game starts you will need to turn the 3-D effect on. To do this hit the hotkeys to turn the glasses on which for nvidia is ctrl T and eDimensional drivers is F5. To turn it off hit Ctrl T again for nvidia and the F4 key for edimensional. See the section for "Optimizing your System" below for specifics on how to get a better effect and learn advance options. - Drivers explained - What are the drivers and what do they do? The drivers do two things, the first is convert the image to 3-D the second is turn the glasses on. We refer to the software as "drivers" a lot which means that it drivers a piece of hardware (our glasses). When in fact it's not so much a driver as it is a complete software package. The software or driver analyze your game and convert every aspect of it to 3-D. It converts people, shadows, reflections, triangles, polygon's, text, everything to 3-D and for you advanced users, it converts textures, shaders, etc. When we say something is converted it means it changes from the way it normally looks on the screen to a 3-D ready format. That 3-D "ready" format looks blurry to the naked eye when you look at it without the glasses. Others call the blurry looking screen a double screen or 2 images overlapped on top of each other. Either way it looks strange to the naked eye, which is what the glasses are for, to see it in 3-D. When a particular game has a graphical error it probably just means it is using codes that our drivers software doesn't recognize and we need to update it to get it working with that particular game. That's what a driver update is for and will be posted on our software updates section of our website under the Support area. Check back frequently for updates as they are essential for providing better performance, and make the graphics look better. Most games should work fine already, but driver updates are good for improvements just like a driver update for your video card or sound card come out. The second thing the drivers do is flip the glasses lenses on. The software drivers do this by sending a signal to the dongle. For nvidia cards with a CRT this signal that is sent to our eDimensional dongle is invisible to you. For the eDimensional drivers the signal that's sent to the dongle is in the form of a color bar at the top of the screen. Right when you hit the hotkey to turn it on you will see colors at the top of your screen. Either way the screen does 3 things. First the image goes "blurry," the screen gets a little darker in some cases, and the the signal starts to send to the glasses. Wired glasses turn on right away for wireless this is the time to hit the ON button above the left lens and they will start accepting the signal. If they don't turn on consult our hardware tests. In most cases the hardware should work fine, sometimes the batteries are dead or the glasses have a fault but generally everything is fine. When diagnosing any problems remember the 2 parts to the drivers and this will help you know if it's a software problem or a hardware problem. 3) Optimizing your system - The hotkeys are very important if you want the image to look it's best on the screen. The way the image looks when you first hit the hotkey to turn the 3-D on inside of a game is just a guess at what will look best. Everyone has different eye sight and the distance between the two eyes is different. You must use the hotkeys to get the image to look right on the screen. You can see a list of hotkeys inside of the driver setup section or look at our knowledge base for help. There are a few hotkeys, the first is to turn the glasses on and off (ctrl T for nvidia and F5/F4 for edimensional). Once the effect is on, or the screen looks blurry as we like to say you should adjust the entire screen. You can adjust the whole screen by using ctrl F3 and ctrl F4 for nvidia and F6/shift F6 for eDimensional drivers. Once it looks good you can fine tune the image with smaller adjustments which is ctrl F5 and Ctrl F6 for nvidia and for edimensional drivers it's F7 and Shift F7. - Game specific fixes are sometimes noted in the knowledge base. Go to our homepage to our knowledge base then to the 3d glasses section. Click on "Game Specific" and if your game is listed we have specific data listed in there. If not there are general fixes that may help. We have information on some games but not every game. There are a lot of games out there and one good place to look for assistance would be the forums at www.stereovision.net - Slow frame rates or the game running slower than normal can be improved. Games may slow down, you're processing more information now that you run in 3-D. The best way to keep your system running quickly is to get the latest eDimensional software and update your hardware the same way you would to get a game running better that you enjoy playing. If updating the hardware is not an option you can still keep your games running quickly with a few adjustments. One thing you can do is lower the resolution, this way not as much memory is used for the game to function. Lowering textures and details will help get it running faster because not as many complicated calculations are required by the video card. Raising the settings as high as it will go while still maintaining good performance is what we would suggest. - Sometimes the game can look "grainy" or have lines in it, or not look as good as it can. To make it look it's best raise the resolution setting as high as you can without going too high to where it won't perform well. - Another common issue that people ask how to optimize is the refresh rate. You will know if your refresh rate has to be optimized when you can detect the shuttering of the glasses. Most people refer to this as flickering on the screen. The recommended resolution is around 85hz or higher. Most LCD's are at 75hz which is ok but is better on a CRT with 85hz or higher. You can also use a program called refresh force, you can find it by searching in google for it, the program is free. You can raise the refresh in nvidia's drivers, please read our knowledge base on suggestions for how to do that. 4) Troubleshooting - If you are having trouble getting it to work you need to first determine which part of the 2 parts is not working, the hardware or the software. You can find out of the hardware has a problem by taking all of the tests in the knowledge base. You will know if the problem is with the software because the screen doesn't get blurry when 3-D is turned on inside of a game. It's possible that the problem could be that particular game. For testing purposes it's best to try a popular mainstream game like freelancer, halo, most of the popular microsoft games work great. There are demo's available at popular website's like www.3dgamers.com and others. Most games will work but remember not every game will work with every single video card. Newer games usually work right away but sometimes they need to be programmed and new driver updates will fix it. - You can test your hardware by using the following tests and check our knowledge base for all tests. The simple way to test to make sure the dongle is sending the image to the transmitter (wireless only) the transmitter is sending light out, and the glasses are turning on is to download the E-D.exe program called the E-D activator. You can find that in our software updates section of the website. When that is open it will show up in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Right mouse click on it and check the Interleaved setting, then right mouse click again and hit stereo Normal. If you have an LCD screen right click again and hit LCD 1 mode. Does the screen turn a little bit darker and shake a small amount? If so then the dongle works. Now do the glasses lenses go darker? Do each of them go darker or just one? If they don't go darker it's either the transmitter or the battery area. You can try new batteries, you can run our digital camera test to see if you can detect light coming from the transmitter. It's all contained in our knowledge base tests on the website under the Support tab and in the Knowledge Base link. 5) FAQ - troubleshooting - Black lines in the monitor - Sometimes the game can look "grainy" or have lines in it, or not look as good as it can. To make it look it's best raise the resolution setting as high as you can without going too high to where it won't perform well. If it's not fixed by this it is probably happening on a LCD monitor. LCD monitors aren't usually as good as CRT monitors and this may be the reason the lines are showing up. The new LCD monitors have faster response times 8-12ms, better resolution capabilities than they use to, and higher refresh rates, a better contrast ratio as well as high levels of brightness. All of these specs make up a better monitor which will create an overall better 3 dimensional image. A CRT is usually the best quality for 3-D. - dark screen - First, change the brightness and contrast dials on your monitor, these are physical buttons at the bottom of the monitor and usually make a big difference. Many games have a gamma setting. Go in to the game's settings menu and usually in the Display (or advanced display) options you will see something for gamma. Not all games have this option. Inside of the video card properties you will find gamma settings, go to the display settings to the Settings tab and then to Advanced. You will find gamma and/or brightness settings in there. The nvidia drivers have a gamma setting on the "Stereo Properties" page while the eDimensional drivers have one in their settings as well. Sometimes with stereo 3D the screen gets darker and with these suggestions you should be able to counter that effect and make it brighter again. 6) Tips - The first thing you should learn is how to search our knowledge base for answers. This is the most essential and easiest way to find 99% of all answers to any question. Go to www.edimensional.com and click on the support tab then to the knowledge base. You will be able to browse through the categories or find answers by searching. You can type a keyword in to the search box then hit search. For instance if your screen was dark you could type the word 'dark' and it will come up with what you're looking for. It's very easy to use and very helpful in answering the questions. - To achieve optimal viewing performance while using this product, darken the room as much as possible by dimming your lighting, lowering shades and/or closing curtains. Ambient Light from sources other than your television can lessen the 3-D effect and increases your ability to perceive the shuttering effect created by your 3-D glasses. - The biggest tip of all is keep using it, after a week or two you notice your eyes will start to adjust to the 3-D image and it will be easier to use and enjoy. You will also find yourself being able to make more separation in the images so there will be more 3-D effect. That takes some time and experienced users can make it look very 3-D while new users have to get used to the effect sometimes. Best of all enjoy it and have fun! Just be sure to check driver updates on the web, keep up to date with our newsletter (sign up on the homepage), and come back to the site frequently for great new products and innovate gaming accessories.
